What we all search for, on Reddit, Fedi, 4ch, IG, FB, Twitter, all these places, it just isn’t there. we know this, but we keep coming back because we hope one day we’ll find that golden reminder of “how it was”. But it just isn’t there any more, any more than replaying WoW after 10 years will bring you happiness. It’s really time to turn off, tune in. Now more than ever. Our limited lives outside the internet might seem terrifyingly small and with virtually no opportunity, but that is our collective realities. That’s why we come to these places, to avoid the reality. I know this. You know this. Why are we still here? When you remember your life, do you remember vividly moments on a screen as you felt intense emotion? No. We remember what happened to us in reality, person to person, or even just ourself in isolation. Whether it made us angry, sad, happy, or in love. All these moments with a screen mean nothing, they don’t linger, they don’t stick in our hearts and minds. All these places are a collective wish, nothing more.
