Is there any evidence that people want this?
It took about 15 years, but the blow has fallen. I upgraded packages on my server and guess what? LibreOffice has got a ribbon. If Microsoft does it, it must be good, apparently.
@hystryfe I would love to have a modern spreadsheet app that was useful but so basic that it doesn't record background colors in cells (so that a document works in any color scheme).
Other than spreadsheets, I don't use LibreOffice for much; every time I try to make slides there instead of using a plaintext file, LibreOffice tries to kill me.
@hystryfe Don't say org-mode. I'm afraid of Emacs.
@progo Hahaha, no, no need for crazy hotkeys. Just lamenting that simpler is better.
@progo https://www.visidata.org looks interesting 🤔
@eglo thanks. I'll check it out.
@eglo Oh but it doesn't do spreadsheets with formulas in cells that are dependent on other cells?
@progo not sure. Just looked up "command line spreadsheets windows" and found it. I'll be playing around with it soon as I've been looking for something like this.
@eglo FYI elsewhere in this thread @subzero suggests "sc-im" which I believe is a real spreadsheet computation program.

@progo 🤦♂️ Let's just go back to plaintext.
