I have two friends who both drink a lot of coffee, and who would describe themselves as picky when it comes to getting a good cup, but they're very different in their approaches.

One prefers drip (and will go so far as buying camp-stove drip coffee makers for camping trips) and will decry the use of any brands of bean that don't cut it. The beans must be one of his preferred, more expensive brands.

The other has a very expensive, fully automatic espresso maker that will grind the beans, froth the milk for a latte, and gets it perfect every time at the touch of a button, but uses generic store-brand beans. To him, as long as the coffee is made well, the beans don't matter.

Which is the greater coffee snob?

I should add:

I'm not a coffee regular. I drink 3-5 servings a week, made with lower-middle-class beans in a moka pot for utilitarian reasons. I'm neither picky about it or reliant on it in my daily routine.

@levisan I’m going with number 1. The drip filter bean snob person. And in full disclosure I like A LOT. (And it likes me!) ☕️

@levisan C) They're the same

And I'd kill them both, first thing in the morning, on my way to microwaving yesterday's left over coffee that's still in the pot. Move, fools!

@levisan I'd say both are a little off. You should use a good process and good beans if you want a great coffee. Poor process or beans will usually make something bitter.

@mhjohnson That's what I told each of them, but both had a reductionist "this is the one thing that has to be perfect and the rest doesn't matter" stance.

@levisan @mhjohnson I just use a standard drip filter coffee maker. And I buy ground coffee. But I do like variety of brands and flavors / roasts. I always change it up. (My favorite is Utica Coffee Roasters in Utica NY. )

@Framming @levisan @mhjohnson For my day-to-day coffee I get Trader Joe's Bay Blend and brew it in my Grind and Brew... I can't brew a bad cup of it.

And @Framming will agree that Dunkin' (Donuts) coffee tastes best when purchased in Massachusnuts!

@sirphenom @levisan @mhjohnson that’s true! Haha ☕️
I rotate between varieties of Utica, Dunks, Starbucks and a bunch of occasional one off’s like Death Wish, etc...
