The red car car club turned up at my local beach cafe.

Perhaps they were having a 3rd of July drive?

The road bypasses Te Puke (Tea-Pook-ay, it's a small farming and orchard town, which I suspect has horrible traffic with farm equipment being moved in the town - all the time, and everyone with giant four wheel drives constantly picking up their kids from school 24 hours a day.

I travelled on one of the three toll roads in New Zealand last week.

It has some weird features. 110km/h speed limit, which is higher than the regular 100km/h speed limit in most of New Zealand.

It is a fully automated tollway which reads number plates on vehicles. The system looks up your plate, and bills you depending on vehicle type and weight class.

All toll roads in NZ have 5 days to pay at tollroad.govt.nz

It cost $2.10 to drive about 16km.

@furgar @Peripheres

At this point you are just pretending to be a comedian.

The big car makers are still making petrol and diesel cars because they can make the most money on them.

They have not established supply chains to enable cheap electric cars. So they will likely go broke or downsize.

Leaving companies that actually want to make EVs to take the majority of the vehicle market.

Light and strong EVs are the obvious conclusion to the vehicle market.

Today Friday 24th, is Matariki, Maori new year.

It is a celebration of the new year and is associated with observable stars.

This is the first time that it is a public holiday.

If people work today in New Zealand, they get compensated another paid day off, and double pay for today.

Took my car for an annual safety inspection. Saw a closed for lunch sign, something I have never seen in New Zealand before. Sometimes I used to take my car for an inspection on my lunch brake. Also the inspection place sells tyres and oil, I guess people are changing how they get the maintenance.

@Johncdvorak The Toyota Mirai modes in Japan have a H2O button on the dash to eject the water from the system in one shot. I think that is the way they manage the ice problem.

I noticed that on the back of my Nissan Leaf, behind the number plate, there is a plastic foam port. I think that the humid cabin air is vented here, and it is insulated to prevent ice buildup, I can't seem to think of any other purpose for that.

I have driven my EV on ski trips, between 0 and -7C. Lost ~30% range.

@adam
Wet bulb conditions are the temperature and high humidity conditions where sweating does not cool down your body.

Wet and dry bulb paired thermometers measure relative humidity.

If the temp is above 36C and humidity near 100%, sweat will not evaporate off your skin to cause cooling.

Physical activity in this condition overheats the body, some people can just die under those conditions.

European heatwave 2003 killed 70,000 under those conditions.

It's a global warming thing.

@Genen Wind farms have the generators in clusters, often on a hill top, because the wind blows faster over a hill top than across the plain.

A lot of long distance power transfer is done on DC transmission because it is more efficient. We will get better at building he stuff, the more we build. Search for DC transmission map.

All power generation has constant maintenance to keep it working.

@Genen Sometimes I do the measurements at Climat sites. (said like this: Cli mat sites) Locations that are in the countryside on farms, where the land use has not changed for 100 years.

At climat sites we have a collection of old and new measuring devices that compare old and new measurement types.

These sites often have 100 year old glass and mercury thermometers, and we have wind up mechanical temperature and humidity graphing machines from the Victorian days.

Just doing some rough maths, if you order the base model Tesla model Y in New Zealand it is way cheaper than in USA. There must be a tax discount in USA, which I am not seeing in the numbers.

The Norfolk pines fell yesterday after lunch, I was watching the wind increase like crazy out my window, Waikanae, is about 5km from my house.

[Two giant Norfolk Pines spear the roof of ACS Ltd autoparts workshop after a tornado whipped through Waikanae on Thursday. Photo / Mark Mitchell]

It's snowing down south, normal for this time of year, but just part of the giant storm system.

The weather is bad. We had a second tornado in three weeks in my district. Just a little tornado, they come in from the sea in thunderstorms, they can still badly damages houses and buildings.

It's very wet, I think it has rained every day or every other day for the last three weeks.

We have had so many thunder storms, I am not sure how many, with torrential rain. Two thunder storms yesterday and one this morning.

It's just a little bit cold, to be annoying.

I wish more people understood this. Much of The Science (covid and climate change) falls into the scientism side of the diagram..
